Characteristics of Effective Learning
At John Shelton Primary we use ‘Characteristics of Effective Learning’ in all year groups. Following previous success in our Early Years classes, we have identified three characteristics of learning that we want all our pupils to show when they are in school. These are: being engaged, being motivated and thinking critically.
To embed these in to our daily practice at John Shelton, we have introduced some new friends to our JS family:
These dinosaurs portray the skills we want all children to show when learning. Children are rewarded with specific dojo points; Engagosaurus, Motosaurus and Thinkosaurus when they demonstrate one of these skills.
We have also linked these learning skills to our school values: Respect, Resilience and Responsibility.
The children have become Dino Experts - being able to recognise how they learn and what school value they are demonstrating! We were even lucky enough to have a visit from real dinosaurs!
